CALL FOR NEW EDITOR, Qualitative Psychology

We are pleased to announce a call for a new Editor of Qualitative Psychology, the official journal of the Society for Qualitative Inquiry in Psychology (SQIP), Section 3 of Division 5 of the American Psychological Association.

The journal has an exceptional impact factor (11.7) and is ranked within the top 10 of psychology journals in the multidisciplinary category of Clarivate’s 2023 Journal Citation Reports.
The appointment of the new Editor will begin January 1, 2026 and involve an overlap with the current Editor, Dr. Heidi Levitt. The standard term of the appointment will be three years and is renewable.
Journal Scope
Qualitative Psychology provides a forum for innovative methodological, theoretical, and empirical work that advances qualitative inquiry in psychology. The journal publishes articles that underscore the distinctive contributions that qualitative research can make to the advancement of psychological knowledge. Studies published in this Journal often focus on substantive topics, while also highlighting issues of epistemology, the philosophy of science, methodological criteria, or other matters bearing upon the formulation, execution, and interpretation of qualitative research.
Qualitative Psychology publishes studies that represent a wide variety of methodological approaches including narrative, discourse analysis, life history, phenomenology, ethnography, critical qualitative research, action research, and case study. The journal is further concerned with discussions of teaching qualitative research and training of qualitative researchers. Role of the Editor
Serve as key liaison with APA Publications
Establish and maintain editorial vision consistent with the principles and values of SQIP
Review all submissions for initial consideration for full peer review
Recruit and retain associate editors and editorial board members, the latter of whom will serve as the primary reviewers of submissions
Delegate submissions to associate editors for full peer review and monitor review process to ensure timeliness
Oversee the creation of special sections and special issues
Benefits and Compensation
The Editor serves as a leader within SQIP and sits with the Executive Committee. The Editor receives an annual honorarium and start-up funds, as well as an honoraria pool for Associate Editors.
Ideal Qualifications of Candidates
History of active engagement with SQIP
Prior experience as a journal editor or associate editor, or experience in book editing
Prior experience in managing editorial processes, such as service as an associate editor, special issue editor, and/or reviewer for multiple journals
Institutional support for major editorial service, ideally in the form of course release
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others
Management skills, including managing a budget, meeting deadlines, and filing reports
